In light of the continued push for socialized medicine and the penalties for non-participation in the program, I felt it may be appropriate to give the Governor a little push towards asserting KY's sovereignty. Here is the letter I am sending. Feel free to copy and use it, pass it on to others to send... Let's get a letter campaign going and let Beshear know how we feel on this issue.

Governor Beshear:

It has recently been confirmed that the Federal health care bills will contain a provision mandating all Americans to carry coverage or face fines of up to $2,500 and one year in prison for each year in which they are not insured.

Such a mandate is clearly not within the Federal powers enumerated in the United States Constitution. Nor can the penalties described be considered reasonable by any measure, a clear affront to the Eighth Amendment.

Can we count on yourself and the agencies of the Commonwealth of Kentucky to stand up for the rights of the citizens of the Commonwealth by denying authority and jurisdiction to the Federal government with regard to this issue? Furthermore, would you be willing to make a public statement to this effect?

As a citizen of Kentucky and of the United States, I would appreciate your attention and assistance in this critically important matter. I am certain you will act in accordance with the public interest and the duty of the office with which we have entrusted you.
