It turns out that getting a government job is easier than ever. While taxpayers are preparing "Tax Freedom Days," the federal government is actively looking for ways to hire. How is all this hiring taking place in the middle of a recession?
Well, the government is not shopping for critical employees. Rather, it is looking for opportunities to employ anyone will do don an Americorps badge and start doing odd jobs around the country. Now, oddly enough, the Corporation for National and Community Service already has over four million workers, more than 1% of the nation's population (their own claim).
If these numbers are to be believed, and I have no reason to doubt them, one must wonder why the government is so actively pursuing expansion of this Corporation for the Nationalization of Menial Endeavors. If these jobs are necessary, someone besides the taxpayer should offer the services.
Yet, a quick perusal of the "jobs" offered by FedGov at the Americorps website, reveals a wealth of opportunities, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous, for which you can receive college for free. One wonders how many more millions of people will need to work directly for FedGov before the socialists will be satisfied. I'm guessing that we won't hit that number until we all have "government jobs."
